There are few things in life that you tend to take for granted until you need them and you realize just how crucial they are to your well-being and livelihood. One such overlooked thing is medical insurance. More and more people these days are diagnosed with medical conditions that require medical help, be it in the form of chiropractic adjustments or prescription medication, and those two types of medical help, and many others, come at a price.

If you're set up with health and medical insurance then you have nothing to worry about when it comes to the cost of certain medical aids. If you're not, well that's a completely different story, especially when it comes to prescription medications, as many prescription medications can cost up to hundreds of dollars per re-fill.

For those of you in need of medical insurance for visa applicant acceptance, that's a whole different story as the whole health and medical insurance combination is one that can be a bit pricey but is nonetheless a requirement for prospective visa holders. The visa allows for parents and grandparents of both Canadian citizens and permanent residents to visit Canada for a maximum of two years at a time without having to renew their status and this visa is valid for a period of up to ten years.

The one catch with this visa is that applicants are required to purchase Canadian medial insurance for a minimum of one year. Health insurance for senior citizens can be on the expensive side, usually around $1,200, and in most cases much more than that, for just one year of health insurance. However, if applicants want to visit Canada under their visa they will need to have that medical insurance in place. Again, individuals applying for one will need health insurance if they don't have it and if they didn't already have it at such a late age they might not have ever gotten it. It just goes to show you that you don't know what you need until you need it.
